ONDOY and PEPENG

October 13, 2009

i am just so thankful that mindanao, especially our province davao oriental don’t get struck by typhoons so much. heavy downpours occur but not to the point of flooding and have the first floors of our homes swimming with rainwater.

just recently, Luzon was struck by typhoon Ondoy. so many dead, injured, and lost their homes. days later, typhoon Pepeng followed. both caused a lot of damage. up until now, relief operations and rehabilitation are on the way. seeing the everyday news showing the 2 typhoon’s destruction could really wrench your heart. i can’t help but feel pity for those who had experienced losses.

but it also feels good to see everybody working together to help and reach out. the government and even private people are all willing to extend help. cash flowed, as well as donations in kind. it is in times like this that i feel really really proud to be a Filipino, the true spirit of Bayanihan is experienced and seen.

let’s face it, climate change is really here. what will happen next, we don’t know for certain.
